FREE LIMITTED EDITION PATCH!

Yes, you read it right I am willing to give you a free limited edion patch. NOT A FUNDRASIER!

All you have to do is visit one of our councils fine Cub Day Camps or Family Camps. Too good to be true? Well there is a little more than that.

Each year our Council holds some of the best day and family camps. The volunteers that operate these camps work many long hours to make sure their campers have the best time possible. One way they do this is by getting feedback through the National Camp Accreditation Program also known as .NCAP.

As the council’s NCAP Chair I am responsible for making sure assessments are made and reported to national. If you would like to be part of this elite team of Scouters who perform these assessments, just let me know. The time commitment is really minimal compared to what else we all do.

To volunteer or for more informaon email; [email protected]

Together we can build outstanding camps!

Council Philmont Contingent Trek June 22, 2020 – July 5, 2020

Ever thought of doing a high adventure trek at Philmont Scout Camp in Cimarron, New Mexico?

Philmont has many opportunities for high adventure. Besides rugged backpacking on some of its over 300 miles of high country trails and climbing one or more of its numerous peaks that tower over 10,000 feet, there are many programs that you will be able to experience. These programs are scattered throughout the nearly 200,000 acres of the ranch and the neighboring land that Philmont uses. It is a wonderful adventure!

The Council’s 2019 Contingent Crew has a couple of slots still available for their June 27 – July 10, 2019 Trek.

We are also planning on sending a Council Contingent Crew for a Trek June 22, 2020 – July 5, 2020. Attached is the brochure with more details. If interested, please contact the Everett Service Center at 425-338-0380.

By Kai Leedy
Sikhs Mox Lamonti Lodge Communications Vice Chief

The Sikhs Mox Lamonti Lodge wishes you a happy New Year! To kick off the year, we’ll be hosting our Annual Winter Fellowship and Banquet on January 18-19. All members are invited to this fellowship to meet new brothers, make new connections, and enjoy the fun the Order has to offer.  All families are invited to our Annual Banquet for a delicious meal to
celebrate the successes of 2018 and welcome in 2019, as well as to witness the callout for the Vigil Honor and the awarding of the Founder’s Award.  Banquet and Awards begin at 6pm at North Creek Presbyterian Church in Mill Creek.

Additionally, the Lodge wishes to remind all unit leaders that the Unit Elections season runs from January 1 – May 31! Chapter leaders will be reaching out to schedule Unit Elections. If you’d like to schedule one, please get in touch with your chapter’s chief or adviser (contact information below). As a reminder, Unit Elections are the only way a youth may become a
member of the Order of the Arrow and further their commitment to unit and council service. Cub Scout leaders should also expect information from their chapter leaders regarding crossover ceremonies.

Below is the 2019 Lodge Calendar, as well as the contact information for your chapter leaders. We hope to see you at our events in the new year.

Thoughts from Scout Executive, Kevin Nichols

In light of the recent media speculation around the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America’s (National BSA) financial position, our local Mount Baker Council is sharing the following information and perspective. The BSA is committed to communicating transparently and has stated that there is no imminent action or immediate decision expected by the BSA in light of the ongoing news stories.

The National BSA is looking at many financial options with legal financial restructuring being one of the options. The National BSA has not made any decisions, however bankruptcy protection could be considered as a strategy if future circumstances require it or if the National BSA Board believes it to be the most viable strategy. No matter the decision made, our Mount Baker Council is confident that the decision will be well thought out and made to ensure that local and national programming continues uninterrupted.

In a communication on Thursday, the National BSA reaffirmed its focus on delivering the nation’s premier character development and values-based leadership program. In addition, they will continue their dedication to keeping children safe.

The National BSA continues to feel they have a social and moral responsibility to fairly compensate victims who suffered abuse while part of the Scouting program. At no time has the BSA organization knowingly allowed a sexual predator to work with youth, and they will always seek to act swiftly when alerted to abuse allegations.

Regarding our Mount Baker Council, we urge you to consider any stories you read while keeping the following information in mind:

Our Board and professional staff continue to do their jobs and focus on our Council goals. Momentum continues to build for the Family Scouting program, our outdoor education programs provide essential leadership and experiences for participants, and our goals continue to focus on ensuring that we are delivering the best program, training, and leadership opportunities to our participants.

The Mount Baker Council is grateful for the passion and dedication provided by our over 3,000 volunteers. As leaders and volunteers we implore you to continue doing what you do so well – working with the youth in our programs and providing leadership and enthusiasm.

We have faith that the National BSA organization will continue to successfully navigate the financial issues that many organizations face in over a century of existence. The Mount Baker Council will continue to focus on our financial health, our quality programs, and our leadership training.

Yours in Scouting,
Kevin Nichols
Scout Executive, Mount Baker Council, BSA

On February 1, 2019, the Boy Scouts of America will begin admitting girls into Scouts BSA.

One of the characteristics of Scouting—for over a hundred years—is that no matter when you join, however long you stay, or the rank you attain, the Scouting experience prepares you for life. And for some, the pinnacle of their Scouting experience is achieving the highest rank of Eagle Scout.

The policies of the BSA indicate that, except in extraordinary circumstances, a youth desiring to achieve the rank of Eagle must do so before the youth’s 18th birthday. This will continue to be our policy.

It is in the interests of the entire BSA, and in fact our nation, that all girls who join the BSA in 2019 should have an opportunity to earn their Eagle Scout rank should they diligently and promptly complete all requirements.

Accordingly, after carefully considering recommendations from stakeholders, including feedback from volunteers and professionals at the 2018 Top Hands Meeting, the National Executive Committee of the Boy Scouts of America has approved temporary transition rules regarding extensions for youth over 16 but not yet 18 years of age on February 1, 2019 to complete the requirements for the Eagle Scout award.

To preserve the integrity of the Eagle Scout Award, no exceptions to or waivers of any of the requirements for the Eagle Scout Award are permitted under this limited exception, and all requirements must be completed while the individual is a registered member of Scouts BSA, or after achieving the First-Class Rank in Scouts BSA (as specified in the BSA Guide to Advancement).
