Kevin will join the Council on February 1, 2018, and will bring a renewed focus on membership growth and is committed to the council’s debt free policy of financial sustainability.

After successful service in Minnesota, the Yankee Clipper Council in Haverhill, Massachusetts promoted Kevin as its Scout Executive.   He has been serving most recently as Field Council Scout Executive for the President Ford Field Service Council headquartered in Grand Rapids Michigan, part of the Michigan Crossroads Council.

Kevin is a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow and is Wood Badge trained.

Kevin and his spouse have four adult children.  All three boys are Eagle Scouts and their daughter was recognized as the Maize and Blue Award winner in Health Careers at the University of Michigan/Flint.   They also have two grandchildren.

Everett Mall, Everett, WA

Help bring holiday joy to residents of retirement, convalescent centers, and foster kids. Over the years, the Tree of Giving program has helped deliver over 3,000 gifts annually to over 40 local area nursing homes, adult care facilities, foster children, homeless teen programs, brain damage and cancer patient facilities. Residents of our community find it extremely rewarding to know that they are able to assist others during the holiday season.

The Mount Baker Council Boy Scouts of America, Fluke Corporation, and the Everett Mall will again be sponsoring the annual Tree of Giving at the Everett Mall in November and December. You can help by selecting tag(s) from trees located throughout Everett Mall and the Everett Scout Office. Gifts with tags are to be placed at the Tree of Giving in the middle of the mall and on December 20st. You and your Unit are invited to come and sort the presents.

There are some exciting updates to the Lion program that we’d like to share with you.

The requirement for a minimum number of boys to form a den has been lifted. While we strongly encourage den sizes of 6 – 8 boys to provide an exciting den with adequately shared leadership, all Lion applications will be processed as they are submitted if they have a dedicated and trained Lion Guide and the Unit has attended the Council Training and have been approved by the District Key 3.

Pack meetings and activities will be open to Lion families who want to participate. Lion families said they wanted more Pack involvement, and now they have the option of being included in program, skits, and more.

Pinewood Derby open to Lions. Packs have three recommended options for implementing this:

1. Integrate into the pack Derby with other Cub Scouts.
2. Use the wedge car from the Scout Shop to eliminate cutting.
3. Have Lions participate in a Veggie Car Derby, where potatoes and cucumbers replace wood blocks.

Fundraising will be allowed as a family option. Although they don’t want mandatory levels of funds to raise, Lion families indicated they do want to have the option to raise funds. Spring fundraising is encouraged. If popcorn is sold by Lions, a show-and-sell approach where older boys and parents are also present is preferred. Door-to-door selling would only be appropriate if the parent is by the youth’s side.

Uniform T-shirt won’t change, but families can buy button-down if they want. Parents and boys love the required Lion T-shirt and optional cap. But this change allows families to buy official blue Cub Scout button-down shirts and blue pants as desired for special occasions and pack ceremonies.

A Lion-specific page in Boys’ Life. Parents can use this great resource to help unlock the world of reading for their child.

Don’t hold onto those new Scout registrations until Recharter!

For any Scout to earn their rank or advancement, Scouts must be registered and units must submit Internet Advancement paperwork at the time of purchase.
Advancement Coordinators:  If Scouts are not showing up in Internet Advancement after you “Load Roster”, please check with your Membership Coordinator, to ensure registration forms have been filled out, signed, and turned into the Scout Office; in person or by mail.
Let’s get those new Scouts the recognition they deserve!

Our Annual Cub Scout Stampede is happening on October 21st!

Stampede gives Cub Scouts a fun day to visit Fire Mountain.  Talk to Scouts around with world by visiting Jamboree of the Internet.  Bring your fishing pole and see if you can catch a trout.  Play field games.  Learn First Aid.  Don’t forget everyone’s favorite BB Guns and Archery!

Not just for new Scouts.  Bring your Webelos and let them try their hand at rappelling.

Know someone interested in Scouts?  Stampede is the perfect activity to introduce them to the fun that can be had in Scouting.
